No need to worry about reservation benefits for sections currently enjoying it: CM Vijayan

MUKKAM (KOZHIKODE): Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday said that there is no need to worry about reservation benefits for any section which is currently getting reservation. He was replying to the comments raised during the morning meeting held at Omassery on the third day of the Navakerala Sadas in Kozhikode.

"The government has no policy to reduce the reservation of any of the reserved sections. Some new sections will come to reservation. As such, the number of people getting reservation in that category will increase. The new sections will be allowed reservation in consultation with all as per the recommendation of the respective committee. Kerala is unique in a way that reservation is not only based on caste, but in a systematic way. The issue of reservation is not something to rush into. Although there are many demands to change the current system of reservation, the government's general stance is that there should be no tinkering around on reservation."

"The condition of mentally challenged people should be taken seriously. The functioning of mental treatment centres in the state will be strengthened. Our universities and colleges must change with the times. Periodic courses, library, lab and other academic facilities are all required. There are great changes in the field of higher education. More than 400 new nursing seats have been created in government colleges alone. A total of 1500 seats have been increased in this way. Arabic University is under consideration.", CM Vijayan added.
