Voting progresses in Telangana; 8.52% polling till 9 am

HYDERABAD: Voting in progress in Telangana. 8.52% polling till 9 pm. 2,290 candidates are contesting for 119 assembly seats. Telangana has 32.6 million voters.


"In 106 constituencies, polling will start from 7 am to 5 pm. Polling will be held from 7 am to 4 pm in thirteen problem constituencies. More than 250,000 employees have been given election duties," said Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj.


Former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, actors Venkatesh Daggupathi, Srikanth, Chiranjeevi, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy who is also BJP president, BRS legislator K Kavita questioned in the Delhi liquor policy case and Telangana minister KT Rama Rao voted in the early hours.


Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) has fielded candidates in all 119 constituencies. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and actor Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena are seeking 111 and eight seats respectively.


National leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have come for the election campaign. The results will be announced on December 3. Apart from Telangana, the results of the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram will also be out on that day.
