Ambalapuzha: Mother immolates autistic son before setting herself on fire

ALAPPUZHA: In a mind-numbing incident, a mother killed her autistic son and later tried to commit suicide. Shobha, of 'Makam' house near Ambalapuzha temple, killed her son Mahesh (35) and tried to commit suicide. The shocking incident happened on Thursday afternoon, as Shobha put fire on her son and later tried to immolate herself.

The locals were alerted seeing the fire come out of the house and took steps to douse it. Both mother and son were shifted to Vandanam Medical College but Mahesh died midway through the journey, just before reaching the hospital. Meanwhile, Shobha is continuing critical. Shobha’s husband died four years back and since then, she along with her son has been living in the house.
