Calicut university senate: Plea against governor at court

court

KOCHI: The High Court has directed to issue a notice to the chancellor on the petition against the action of the governor, who is also the chancellor, in excluding some and including others from the list given by the VC to nominate to the senate of the University of Calicut. Justice Viju Abraham's directive came on the plea of media activist PV Kuttan and businessman Damodar Avanoor, who were excluded from the list of VCs. The petition will be considered again on December 14th. According to the petition, PV Kuttan and Damodar Avanur were excluded and AK Anuraj, director of a private journalism college and a BJP worker, and Congress Malappuram block vice-president TJ Martin were included. It is customary for the chancellor to ask the government for a list to nominate members to the senate and then approve the list provided by the government through the VC. In contrast, the petitioners allege that the chancellor acted on his own accord.
