Killer shark bites off woman's leg; brave escape goes wasted

MEXICO CITY: A Mexican woman while swimming in the sea with her daughter, was attacked by a gigantic shark that mauled her to death. 26-year-old Maria Fernandez Martinez had to face the brutal attack in the Melaque beach. Meanwhile, Maria’s five-year-old daughter escaped miraculously from the killer shark. It is said that Maria tried to shoo away her daughter to the shore as she saw the shark approaching them.

The shark tore apart Maria’s leg but fighting it, she escaped and reached the shores. Locals and other visitors reached the spot seeing the woman lying on the sand unconscious with one leg torn apart. The help came late and during this time, Maria died. Security personnel also reached the spot with help, but the wound was too deep and they could do nothing but witness the woman bleeding to death.

Following this incident, the authorities cancelled the swimming competition that was to be held at the same place. Along with this, residents and visitors were also advised not to take a bath in the sea.

The municipal authorities also decided to temporarily close the beach after the incident. Officials also informed that appropriate action will be taken after discussing with the concerned departments to ensure complete security at the beach.
