NEW DELHI: The central government on Sunday put the Kashmiri separatist party Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) as an ‘unlawful association’ under the UAPA act and thus made the organization an illegal one. Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) was the brainchild of late separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The decision to ban the outfit was reached after the central government’s report mentioned that the organization was rampantly involved in spreading anti-Indian propaganda.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the organization was involved in prohibited activities of secession of Jammu and Kashmir from India and tried to establish Islamic rule in the state. The union minister alleged the organization of fueling the unrest in Kashmir and nurturing a new breed of separatists to fight for their cause.
The union minister in an ultimatum said that all such parties involved in anti-Indian work will be scrutinized and banned. The Centre's ban on Tehreek-e-Hurriyat comes days after it banned the Muslim League Jammu and Kashmir (Masarat Alam Faction, MLJK-MA). The central government banned the Muslim League Jammu and Kashmir for allegedly engaging in anti-national activities. The Center also accused the organization of trying to bring Muslim rule in Jammu and Kashmir.
