Youth drowns in attempt to save friend’s pet dog

BHOPAL: An engineering graduate, Saral Nigam tragically drowned in the Kerva Dam while attempting to rescue a friend's pet dog. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning resulting in the loss of the 23-year-old graduate who had recently completed his engineering degree from NIT Bhopal. Saral, who was also preparing for the UPSC exam had gone for a walk with friends at 7:30 in the morning when one of the girls' dog fell into the dam around 8:30 am.

Despite their efforts to save the puppy, Saral lost his footing in the strong current and was swept away. The girls called for help but despite the watchman's search efforts Saral could not be located. The police were immediately informed and divers along with the SDERF commenced a search operation. Saral's body was found an hour later.

Saral, who was the only child of his parents had been in the Kerva Dam area for a jungle camp. ASI Anandram Yadav provided information about the incident mentioning that investigations are ongoing.
