Bina Mohammed's electric snack maker shocks customs; Rs 95 lakh worth gold seized from Karipur

MALAPPURAM: It is another normal day in Karipur airport and customs have seized 1500 grams of gold, which was hidden inside an electric Unniyappam( Kerala snack) maker. The gold was modelled in the shape of a vada, in a meek attempt to dupe the officials.

Bina Mohammad Azad, a native of Kozhikode Peruvayal who came from Dubai, was caught in the incident. She had with her gold worth 95 lakh rupees. Sharafuddin, a native of Kozhikode Omassery, who tried to smuggle gold by hiding it in his jeans, was also caught. He came from Muscat. He hid 1192 grams of mixed gold inside his jeans. The gold was worth Rs 24 lakh.

Apart from this, the young man was caught trying to smuggle gold hidden between dates wrapped in chocolate candy wrappers. Customs found 141 grams of gold in 20 pieces. A Kumbala resident who tried to smuggle gold in a perfume bottle was also caught.
