96.88 crore voters: 7.26 crore more than last parliamentary election; Election Commission releases figures.

NEW DELHI: The total number of voters in this year's general elections is 96,88,21,926 crore. The Election Commission has informed that the number of voters has increased by six percent compared to the number of voters in 2019. There were 89.6 crore voters in 2019. There are 7.28 crore more now. Out of this, 2.63 crore are maiden voters. 10.64 lakh persons under 18 years of age (above 17) have registered using the opportunity to enrol thrice in a year. This is according to the condition that they will turn 18 at the time of voting. This is the figure as registered till February 8, 2024.

The new list was released after a special revision process that began in November 2022 to exclude those who died and were displaced. 67,82,642 dead, 75,11,128 permanently absent and 22,05,685 duplicates were removed.

The commission has also released the electoral roll of Jammu and Kashmir (86,94,992) and Assam (2,43,01,960) where the constituencies were re-delimited.
