KOCHI: High Court has upheld the verdict in the TP Chandrasekaran murder case rejecting the appeals of the accused and affirming the trial court's decision for acquittal. The ruling brings a sense of closure to the long-standing legal battle surrounding the case.
MLA KK Rema, wife of the deceased and a prominent figure in the political arena, expressed satisfaction with the court's decision. However, she emphasized that the fight for justice is far from over, pointing towards the pursuit of the mastermind behind the heinous crime.
The involvement of two key leaders of CPM, KK Krishnan and Jyoti Babu, was highlighted during the proceedings. The court has directed both individuals to appear on the 26th of this month for further actions indicating that their punishment will be determined at that time.
The acquittal of CPM Kozhikode District Secretary P Mohanan due to insufficient evidence has stirred controversy, with Rema asserting that Mohanan's role cannot be overlooked, despite the legal outcome.
The murder, which took place on May 4, 2012, in Onchiyam near Vadakara was motivated by vengeance following Chandrasekaran leaving from the CPM to establish the RMP.
The verdict was delivered by a division bench comprising Justice AK Jayasankaran Nambiar and Justice Dr Kausar Edappagath.
