THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has strictly advised that the passengers' first bag of luggage should be delivered to the conveyor belt within ten minutes after the flight engine is turned off. All luggage should reach the belt within half an hour. It will be effective from February 26. Thiruvananthapuram Airport has four conveyor belts where eight conveyor belts are required. One of these has been converted for domestic passengers. At present, it takes more than two hours for a plane's luggage to be fully unloaded.
On the instructions of the Union Aviation Minister, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security conducted an inspection of seven major airports in the country and found that Thiruvananthapuram airport is far behind in terms of delivering passengers' luggage. Elderly passengers, including women arriving from abroad, have to wait for hours for their luggage after immigration and customs checks.
