Husband detained over death of wife, baby during delivery at home

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A man identified as Nayas has been detained in connection with the death of his wife and baby during delivery at home. The incident happened at Karakkamandapam in Thiruvananthapuram last evening. The dead are Shameena (36), a native of Poonthura and her baby. Her relatives did not take her to the hospital and made her deliver at home.

This was Shameena’s fourth delivery. Since her husband was not in station, Shameena and her children were staying at home. When Asha workers knew that Shameena was pregnant, they advised her to seek treatment in the hospital, but she did not pay heed to it. Nayas’ first wife and daughter tried the delivery at home.

Excessive bleeding after delivery led to the death of both. The information came to light when she was taken to a private hospital. The Nemom police registered a case and started an investigation. A case of unnatural death has been registered. Shameena's husband Nayas has been detained.
