THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has decided to create 190 new posts in the police and to give Cabinet status to Dr K M Abraham, Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister. This decision in this regard was taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan yesterday. This is the first time that a person holding the rank of Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister is being given cabinet rank. Although this will not result in a significant salary hike, there will be a major change in power and rights. More personal staff can be hired. There will be a huge increase in benefits and legal protections. The ED had issued a notice to Abraham in the case of KIIFB obtaining foreign loans without central approval.
190 police constable driver posts will be created in the police department. This has opened the way for more people to get appointed. The government's decision came as the rank holders protested against the delay in appointment from the police rank list.
