KALPATTA: Thalassery Archdiocese President Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplani said that the tiger is better than some ministers' statements in Kerala. He made these remarks at the conclusion of a farmer's rally organized by the Diocese of Mananthavadi in Kalpetta against the menace of wild animals.
Ministers claim it's a central issue and they can't act, but then what's the role of the forest department? The government has failed miserably in addressing wild animal attacks in Wayanad. Pamplani warned that if the case against the farmers isn't withdrawn, no one should expect votes in the next election.
Bishop Mar Jose Porunnedam of Mananthavadi Diocese presided over the rally, which drew thousands of participants starting from Kainatti bypass junction. Leading the rally were family members of Ajeesh from Padamala Panach and V.P. Paul from Pakkam Vellachal, both victims of wild animal attacks. Prior to the rally, a fast was held at Wayanad Collectorate, inaugurated by Mananthavadi Diocese Auxiliary Bishop Mar Alex Taramangalam with Catholic Congress Diocese President Dr KP Saju presiding.
Pamplani stressed the government's obligation to withdraw the protest-related case and acknowledge its mistake. He advocated for fitting radio collars on forest officials in Wayanad and warned of further action if necessary. Thamarassery Diocese President Mar Remigios emphasized the need for tangible actions over mere manifesto promises and suggested sending a farmer representative from Wayanad to the Lok Sabha.
