NEW DELHI: 39 coins and 37 magnets were removed from the body of a youth in a surgery conducted at Sir Gangaram Hospital in New Delhi. The 26-year-old youth came to the hospital with a complaint of non-stop vomiting and abdominal pain for more than 20 days.

The youth was first examined by senior consultant, laparoscopic, laser and general surgery, Dr Taun Mittal. The youth came to the hospital in a condition where he could not even eat. A scan revealed items such as coins and magnets in his stomach. Moreover, the two parts of the small intestine were held together due to the attraction between the magnets in the stomach. Then surgery was immediately performed and all the coins and magnet were extracted. The youth was discharged from the hospital after seven days.

The youth admitted to doctors that he swallowed coins and magnets to get the zinc he needed to build muscle. The doctors also revealed that he has mental problems. Apart from Dr Mittal, Dr Ashish Dey, Dr Anmol Ahuja, Dr Vikram Singh, Dr Tanushree and Dr Karthik were also in the team.
