Couple arrested for ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ style car theft in Delhi

NEW DELHI: A couple who stole a youth’s car and laptop resembling the film titled ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ released in 2005, has been arrested. Sandeep Munna and Reena, natives of Palam in Delhi, were arrested from Janakpuri. The incident happened on February 22.

The youth filed a complaint after his car and laptop were stolen. His complaint said that he offered a lift to the couple standing on the roadside to reach C2 Block in Janakpuri. The couple became friends with the youth. The complainant also told the police that they visited various places in Delhi in his car. In between, the youth allowed one of the accused to drive his car. The couple drove away his car before he got into it.

The police conducted an investigation under the leadership of assistant commissioner Suma Madda following his complaint. The investigation was based on CCTV footage and phone calls and other digital traces such as linked payment gateway accounts. Sandeep testified that both were staying in Uttam Nagar. Sandeep said both had severe financial constraints and were unable to pay the rent for their flat.
