SBI bank manager arrested for siphoning gold worth Rs 3 cr from locker

MUMBAI: A bank managed has been arrested for allegedly taking gold kept in the lockers of SBI. Manoj (33), service manager of Mulund West branch where the misappropriation took place, was arrested after the incident came to light on Saturday.

The administrator of the branch noted discrepancies in the locker's contents on when Manoj was on leave and immediately checked the list of gold loans in the bank. In this, there were details of 63 loans. But when the locker was opened and checked, only four packets were left.

Manoj Maruti Mhaske and cash in charge Shweta Sohani had two keys of the locker.

After noticing the misappropriation, administrator Amit Kumar called Manoj and questioned him, and he confessed that he had taken the gold.

He took four kilograms of gold worth Rs 3 crore from the locker. Manoj said that it was taken for personal purposes and that he planned to return everything within a week, but the bank went ahead with a complaint about the incident. After this, the police arrested Manoj.
