Siddharth's death: Murder possibility should be investigated, says Police in remand report; evidence collected

VYTHIRI: The remand report submitted by the police to the Kalpetta court says that the possibility of murder in the death of Pookodu veterinary college student Siddharth due to the brutal beating by SFI activists has to be investigated. It was also requested that the accused should not be granted bail.

What happened to Siddharth was brutal. The trial and brutal beatings were as per the unwritten rules of a group of students in the college hostel. Siddharth, who had left for home, was called back saying that a girl had filed a complaint against him and it could be settled. They also threatened to file a police case if Siddharth goes ahead with legal action. Another accused Danish called Siddharth from one of the accused Rahan's phone.

On the morning of February 16, when Siddharth returned to the college, the accused detained him without releasing him. Making him wear only underwear, the thrashing began in a primitive manner from nine o'clock at night. They took Siddharth to different parts of the campus and beat him with belts, cable wires and kicked him. The beating continued till two in the morning. On the 18th, Siddharth was found hanging in the toilet of the hostel room. So far 18 accused have been arrested in the case.

Evidence taken with main accused and weapons recovered

1. The main accused Sinjo Johnson who was arrested was brought to the college hostel and evidence was taken
2. Evidence was collected in the hostel room toilet where Siddharth was found dead, the bedroom, the accused in the case SFI unit secretary Amal Ishaq's room and Sinjo's room.
3. The wire used for beating, the glue gun used in the attack, the weapon and the sandal were recovered.
4. Sinjo was asked about the events that took place from February 15 to 18
5. Kalpatta DySP TN Sajeev led the evidence collection which started at 4 pm yesterday and lasted for one and a half hours

Only the underwear on the corpse, photograph out

A picture of Siddharth hanging dead in the toilet of the college hostel has surfaced. This is a picture taken by a friend. The dead body was hanging from a wire in the ventilation of the toilet. Only underwear is on the dead body. Before the police arrived, some members of the attack group took the body out of the ventilation and laid it down.

"In connection with the death of Siddharth, the dean and assistant warden of Pookodu Veterinary College have been ordered to be suspended. There was a failure on Dean's part. CC TV camera surveillance will be installed in the college hostel
