Elephant brought for offering runs out of lorry, tramples man, cows and goats trampled to death

PALAKKAD: The elephant brought for nercha (offering) in Pattambi ran out of the lorry. The incident happened near Vadakkumuri in Palakkad Monday morning around 4 am. Muthu, the elephant owned by a native of Thamarassery, jumped out of the lorry. The elephant has been found in the yard of a house in Ambad, a short distance away. The elephant did not obey the mahout at first.


The elephant has not been controlled so far. There are reports that the elephant trampled a native of Tamil Nadu on the way. The injured native of Tamil Nadu has been shifted to the district hospital. It also trampled two cows and a goat to death and damaged a house and a shop.


When the lorry stopped near Vadakkumuri, the mahouts went to take a short nap and the driver was out to have a tea, the elephant jumped out of the lorry. There was another lorry nearby. It is reported that the elephant has been controlled after an effort of more than three hours.
