'Police go back, Forest Minister should come'; Protest in Kothamangalam with Indira's body

KOCHI: A protest has erupted in Kothamangalam following the death of Indira, an elderly woman killed by a wild elephant in Neriyamangalam. Led by Congress leaders and locals, the protestors demand Forest Department Minister AK Saseendran come to the spot and address the escalating human-wildlife conflict.

Idukki MP Dean Kuriakos, Mathew Kuzhalnadan MLA and DCC President spearheaded the protest, expressing outrage over the incident. The victim, 70-year-old Indira from Kanjiraveli, was attacked while harvesting arrowroot. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries on the way to Kothamangalam Hospital.

The protest, marked by slogans like 'Police go back', underscores the urgent need for measures to prevent further tragedies. Police intervened to remove the deceased's body amidst heightened security in the area.
