Woman found hanging at husband's home; relatives allege mystery

KOVALAM: Relatives have alleged mystery regarding the death of a housewife who was found hanging at her husband's house in Poonkulam. Karthika S Chandran (37), a native of Koliyoor, was found hanging at her husband's house yesterday morning.

Karthika, who was working as an accountant in a private firm in Vazhuthacaud, had been living away from her husband Ratheesh for almost a year. For the last two months, she had been staying with her husband and son at his house following the intervention of the relatives. Ratheesh used to constantly talk about some of Karthika's debt obligations. Ratheesh and his son Karthik have been sleeping on the verandah of the house for the last few days because of the heat inside the house. The relatives told the police that Karthika called her son and bought a pen and paper before going to bed on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday morning, she was found hanging in the bedroom of the house. The door was locked from inside. Kovalam police reached the spot and took action. Yesterday afternoon, the body was handed over to the relatives after post-mortem at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. Karthika has a brother named Kiran. Kovalam CHO Sajeev Cherian said that an investigation has been launched into the incident.
