Padmaja was deliberately defeated in Thrissur, there are proofs’; says husband Dr Venugopal

THRISSUR: Dr Venugopal, husband of Padmaja Venugopal, said there are proofs for deliberately defeating her in Thrissur. Talking to a media, he said that his wife takes wise decisions and will support them. His response was amid reports of Padmaja joining the BJP.

‘She was deliberately defeated in Thrissur and there are proofs for it. The party was not even ready to investigate that. Her father K Karunakaran used to come and stay in our house daily. In those days, when an activist came, there was someone to listen to his complaint. Today there is no answer for anything and so solution for anything. She had decided to quit politics and stay at home. All her relatives advised her to go if she gets a good opportunity. I supported her when she asked me.

I don't know if Padmaja had complained to anyone. I don't go to the DCC office or KPCC office. A complaint can be said naturally also. There was no permanent solution to anything including the trust in her father's name. There was no support from the party even to build a memorial in the land allotted by the government in Thiruvananthapuram.

Even the intelligence report mentioned win in Thrissur. Many who stood with us, may have eyed the seat. Padmaja will not contest the Lok Sabha elections this time. There were offers, but she is not contesting,’ he said.
