KANNUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the six-lane Thalassery-Mahe Bypass from Thalassery to Mahe today. The inauguration will be online at 11 am. Before this, toll collection for vehicles passing through this road started at eight o'clock this morning. Public Works Minister Mohammad Riyaz and Speaker A N Shamseer will attend the inauguration ceremony directly.
The bypass is a six-lane road that reaches Kozhikode Azhiyur from Kannur without entering the congested cities of Thalassery and Mahe. The bypass, 45 meters wide and 18.6 km long, is the result of a 47-year-long wait by residents. Land acquisition started in 1977. But the construction could start only in 2018 during the first Modi government. BJP state president and Kannur BJP candidate C Raghunath will hold a roadshow at Bypass today. The toll rate for vehicles including cars and jeeps is Rs 65 one way and for buses Rs 225.
