BSc Nursing management seat: Separate fees to apply in private colleges, additional burden to students

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The uniform allotment for admission to BSc Nursing Management seats in 85 private nursing colleges in the state, was stopped abruptly after seven long years. From this year, colleges will conduct admission by inviting applications separately. The decision was made after the proposal that GST on application fees should be paid to the government while considering uniform allotment. Managements have come forward with complaints about this move which is presaged to add up liability. It is hitherto unknown for colleges to pay GST for uniform allotments.

The new decision was taken at the Private Nursing College Management Association meeting where the Christian Management Association also extended its support. There are 50 colleges under the Private Nursing College Management Association and 35 colleges under the Private Christian Management Association. They invited applications online through a centralized system and made the allotment based on the rank list. It has been announced that the government will conduct entrance for nursing admission this year. Candidates who qualify for this can also apply for management seats.

The proposal to pay 18% GST on the registration fee of Rs 1000 collected from the students for the uniform allotment has put the management in a quandary. It is argued that the financial burden will arise as the GST is not collected separately. Private nursing colleges are also suggested to pay the GST dues from 2017 onwards. So these colleges came up with the decision after not getting any favourable response from the government.

  • A student who registers by paying a fee of Rs 1000 can apply to a maximum of 10 private colleges

  • According to the new decision, each college will charge a separate fee. This will put an additional financial burden on the students
