Cannot interfere with judgment of Appellate Tribunal; Delhi High Court dismisses congress petition

congress-

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court said that it cannot interfere with the judgment of the Appellate Tribunal asking the Congress to pay 106 crore income tax arrears. The court dismissed the petition filed by the Congress against the verdict, stating that there was no reason to interfere with the tribunal's order. A bench comprising Justices Yashwant Verma and Purushindra Kumar Gaurav dismissed the petition. The Income Tax Department had issued a notice to the Congress to pay back 106 crore tax arrears. The Congress approached the High Court in a situation where it did not get a stay despite approaching the Tribunal against it.

The bank accounts of the Congress and the Youth Congress were frozen by the Income Tax Department recently citing the delay in paying the income tax returns five years ago. Congress had accused the order freezing funds so close to Lok Sabha elections as an attack on democracy.
