GUWAHATI: The police arrested the India chief of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Assam. India chief Haris Farooqui and his aide were arrested. The police told media that the two were detained after they crossed to India from Bangladesh. Following a tip-off, the Special Task Force followed and arrested them. They have been taken to the Special Task Force (STF) office in Guwahati.
The Special Task Force told NDTV that the agencies had received information that two members of the ISIS in India camping in Bangladesh, were planning to cross over to India at the Dhubri sector and carry out sabotage activities. The head of ISIS in India, Harish Ajmal Faruqi alias Haris Farooqui, and his aide Rehan were arrested in a major operation. The two were in the most wanted list of the NIA.
A special task force led by Inspector General of Police Parthasarathi Mahanta arrested the duo yesterday evening. They are said to have conspired to carry out recruitment, terror funding and terror activities at various locations across India. A police officer said that many cases are pending against them at NIA, Delhi, ATS and Lucknow.
