Woman flung into air, seriously injured in freak accident in Karunagappally

KOLLAM: A woman scooter rider was seriously injured in a freak accident in Karunagappally Thazhava. Sandhya (43), a resident of Valalil Mukku, was injured. The incident took place at around 2 pm on Saturday.

The lorry carrying timber hit the electric cable and moved forward heedlessly carrying the cable along and threatening other drivers on the road. Sandhya who was sitting in her scooter in front of her husband’s workshop unluckily got entangled in the cable when the lorry passed by. Sandhya tried to deboard from the scooter but failed to beat the speed. The cable lifted Sandhya from the ground and later dropped her 20 m away from the workshop. The scooter also flew in the air before tragically landing on Sandhya. The CCTV visual of the incident has gone viral across social media.

Sandhya's shoulder is fractured and she is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Kollam. Meanwhile, Sandhya's husband alleged that the lorry did not stop after crashing on the cable for the first time. He also alleged ignorance and inept handling from government hospital doctors which forced him to rush his wife to a private hospital as he felt like losing his wife to death.
