Man attempts self-immolation at Alathur police station, suffers 95 per cent burns

PALAKKAD: A young man attempted suicide inside Alathur police station in Palakkad on Sunday. Kavassery native Rajesh (30) entered the police station, poured kerosene and set himself on fire.

The incident happened at 1:30 pm on Sunday after Rajesh was summoned to the station following a complaint received from a woman who accused him of harassment. The matter was later settled, but Rajesh couldn't come out from the trauma of being summoned to the station.

According to the hospital authorities, Rajesh has suffered 95% burns. Rajesh, who was undergoing treatment at Alathur Taluk Hospital, has been now shifted to Thrissur Hospital.
