DISPUR: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a dig at All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal MP with only weeks for the Lok Sabha elections. Sarma said that if he wants to marry again, he should do so before the polls or face arrest.
Sarma said that after the Lok Sabha elections, Uniform Civil Code will be implemented in the state and polygamy would be illegal. The chief minister was responding to Badruddin Ajmal's remark that he would still marry despite having seven children.
‘Congressmen and others said that I have become old. But I still have the strength to get married. I can do so even if the chief minister doesn't want me to, said Ajmal.
'If he (Badruddin Ajmal) invites us for the marriage now, we will go because it is not presently illegal. He has a wife. He can marry two or three more, but after election we will stop polygamy. The entire draft is ready,” added the chief minister.
