KANNUR: Governor Arif Khan on Tuesday removed twelve members from the 14-member senate panel suggested by the university syndicate. Only writer T. Padmanabhan and student representative Ayesha Fida were retained. Even nationally known personalities were omitted from the list.
Recently in Kerala and Calicut Universities, the Governor rejected the panel provided by the government through the varsity and made his own nomination.
Janmabhoomi newspaper report U P Santhosh, Adv. Karunakaran Nambiar, member of Sangh Parivar organization Sahakar Bharati National Committee, DCC General Secretaries Biju Ummer, Adv. ER Vinod is among those nominated by the Governor.
Raj Bhavan clarified that the nomination of the headmaster Mahesh will be withdrawn.
Membership will take effect only when the University issues a notification accepting the Governor's recommendation. The CPM has approached the Election Commission demanding that it be stopped citing violation of rules.
Syndicate members protested in front of the university alleging that the governor shrewdly nominated RSS members to the panel. Syndicate member N. Sukanya inaugurated the event and vowed to fight the decision legally. Meanwhile, SFI state president Anusree confirmed strong protests in the coming days by the student federation against the Raj Bhavan decision.
It is indicated that Media veterans Sasikumar, Venkatesh Ramakrishnan, Doordarshan director Krishna Das, sportspersons KC Lekha, CK Vineeth, former head of SN college sports department Prof. Jagannathan and ISRO scientist Kunjikrishnan have also been excluded.
