NEW DELHI: The most notable battle in Rajasthan is in the agricultural region of Sikar. CPM candidate is contesting on the 'INDIA' banner against BJP sitting MP. The flags of CPM and Congress, arch-enemies of BJP in Kerala, are flying together in Sikar.

The CPM has long held influence in Sikar, which witnessed AKG's farmer protests. Four-time MLA and current State Secretary Amara Ram Choudhary, who entered politics through SFI, is the CPM candidate. After 1996, Amara Ram Choudhary contested for the Lok Sabha from Sikar seven times but did not win. Congress was his main opponent along with BJP till the last assembly elections. He is joining hands with them in the eighth battle. He spoke to Kerala Kaumudi when seen during the campaign:

How will it be facing the people again?

Since it is an agricultural sector, the campaign topics are support price and price rise. Farmers were seen as terrorists by the BJP government. The anti-Agniveer sentiment is also beneficial.

Development slogan of BJP

BJP development slogan is just a word. Minorities, backward and Dalit classes and workers were neglected. Only Adani and Ambani benefited.

When contesting as INDIA front candidate?

Congress provides excellent support. Baba (BJP candidate) will be sent back to the ashram. 'INDIA' will win in Sikar.

'INDIA' is hopeful

Congress won five out of the eight assembly seats in Sikar in the assembly elections that had a BJP wave. Sitting MP Sumedhanand Saraswati hails from Haryana. There is a complaint that the MP is not visiting his constituency. The 'INDIA' candidate is popular and local. (In 2014, Sumedhanand Saraswati came to Sikar after rejecting the opposition of BJP state unit. He won on the Modi wave.)BJP is disappointed. Amit Shah's roadshow was empty. Efforts are being made to bring Modi.

Jat Position

Both candidates belong to the Jat community, the majority community in the constituency. It is said that Jats are not in favour of BJP.

Modi guaranty important: BJP

BJP election in-charge Manoharlal Saini said that 'INDIA' banner will not make an impact due to Modi effect. Congress supporters will not vote for the hammer, sickle and star. Leaders including PCC president Govind Singh Dotasra, a native of Sikar, are not contesting for fear of defeat. Votes will be for Modi and not the BJP candidate. Modi guarantee is the main factor. Ram temple and abrogation of Article 370 will also make an impact.
