NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his stand on the need to resolve the existing tension between India and China. Modi made his stand clear in an interview with the US magazine Newsweek. Modi spoke about the importance of maintaining a stable relationship between the two countries. He asserted that the world as a whole will gain from India and China having stable relations.
Modi said that some border issues exist between India and China and that there is a need to sort out these issues immediately.
"The situation in the border region must be resolved urgently. That way, we can solve the problems in our bilateral interactions," said the Prime Minister.
India and China have been engaged in a standoff for nearly four years at some points in eastern Ladakh following the Galwan Valley standoff in June 2020. The two sides have engaged in diplomatic and high-level military talks multiple times. Both nations have agreed to resolve the dispute and maintain peace in the region.
Modi expressed his belief and hope that military and diplomatic intervention will bring peace back to the India-China border.
