Woman dies tragically as wall collapses at house in Pothencode

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman died tragically after the wall of her house crumbled down on her in the heavy rain. The incident took place in Pothencode on Tuesday. Sreekala (61) of the Edathara ward in Pothencode is the deceased. There has been strong rain in the region for the past few days.

Recently the family have moved to a new house nearby and the old house was in contention to be demolished. The house was partially demolished and the work was put to a halt minding the torrential rain. Not knowing the danger lurking, Sreekala went inside her old house to fetch firewood. The rain was fiercer during this time and the walls of the house fell on her. She was immediately rushed to medical college but couldn’t be saved.

In a similar incident in Thiruvattoor, while demolishing a roadside Anganwadi, the walls of a house adjacent to the building fell upon an 8-year-old girl, killing her instantly. Jasa Fatima, daughter of Sumaiya and Mujeeb, was the deceased.

Adil (eight) who was seriously injured that day was admitted to a private hospital in Kannur and Jasa Fatima's sister Linsa Mehrin (five) and Ashabba (seven) were admitted to the Kannur Govt.
