Orange alert issued for Kerala coast today; Strong wave warning and safety instructions in effect

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Orange alert has been issued for the Kerala coast and the south Tamil Nadu coast today. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has informed that there is a possibility of strong waves up to 1.5 meters high until 3:30 in the evening.

There is also a warning to be very careful in low-lying areas. The sea attack was severe in different parts of Kerala yesterday. Warnings should not be ignored under any circumstances. Trips to the beach and recreation at sea should be avoided. Do not sleep on the beach under any circumstances. The warning also states that fishing equipment should be moved to a safe place.

Important instructions

1. As rough seas are likely to intensify, stay away from dangerous areas as per the instructions of the authorities.

2. Keep fishing vessels (boats, ships) safely moored in the harbour.

3. Maintaining a safe distance between boats can avoid the possibility of collision.

4. Completely avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea.

5. People should stay off all beaches until the warning is lifted.

6. Fishing in boats and small craft should not be done after eight o'clock in the night in areas adjacent to the Kerala coast.

7. In areas adjacent to the Kerala coast, small vessels should not go out to sea for fishing from bays and estuaries until this warning is withdrawn.
