No more parking fines; disabled and physically challenged to get parking for free; Sharjah administration to update POD cards; check how to register

SHARJAH: Sharjah administration has provided new facilities for the disabled. Henceforth, the physically challenged will get free parking in public spaces. For this, the existing People of Determination (PoD) card system has been made more efficient. Parking was made available by scanning the PoD ID card affixed to the car's windshield. However, disabled people faced difficulty as scanning equipment and cameras often did not detect the card. This situation will be resolved with the new system.

The newly issued POD cards will be linked to Sharjah Municipality. Through this, the owner of the vehicle can be identified while scanning the number plate. Parking permit will be obtained very easily. Public Parking Director of Sharjah Municipality Hameed Al Qaid stated that the new system is being introduced in the situation where people with disabilities are often subjected to punitive measures including fines in Sharjah for not parking in the correct places.

To avail the new system one has to register with the Integrated Public Parking System. Then disabled people can use all the parking spaces in the city for free.

Log into the municipality's official website(https://portal.shjmun.gov.ae/)

Click on 'Smart Services'

Choose 'Public Parking Department services' and then 'Apply for People with Disabilities Permit'
