Five suffocate to death in Sharjah residential building fire; 44 injured

SHARJAH: Five people died gruesomely after suffering from suffocation of smoke after a fire broke out in a high tower building in Al Nahda, Sharjah. A total of 44 people were injured in the accident and 17 are considered to be in critical condition. Currently, all the injured are being treated in the emergency department. The details of the victims have not been disclosed yet.

The fire broke out in a residential building at 9:30 pm on Thursday.

It is reported that 156 residents of the building, including 18 children, have been shifted to a safer place. There are 750 apartments in the 39-storey building.

Authorities have expressed deep sorrow and have offered condolence for the victims.
