Two girls, who came to participate in relative's nikah, drown in quarry

MALAPPURAM: Two girls, relatives who had come to participate in a Nikah, drowned in a quarry. The deceased has been identified as Reja Fathima (8), daughter of Mohammed Shareef of Kannadiparamb House in Pulikkal's Valiyaparamb and Jiya (9), daughter of Jamsheer of Mambatta Chola in Pookkottumpadam. The accident occurred in a quarry near Podiyad in Melmuri. Both the children are the children of sisters. The nikah of the children's uncle was held at nine o'clock yesterday morning. Then the children disappeared. A search was conducted there after a neighbor informed that the children had asked for directions to the quarry. In the evening, the dead bodies were found in a quarry about a kilometre away.

The body will be handed over to the relatives today after post-mortem at Manjeri Medical College. Jiya is a second class student of Goodwill English School, Pookottumpadam. Sunila is the mother. Reja Fathima is a 3rd class student of Valiaparambu West AM LPS. Pulikal gram panchayat ward seven member Shamla is the mother.
