Siblings drown while bathing in Bharathapuzha

THRISSUR: Two people, who are siblings, drowned to death in Bharathapuzha in Varavattoor in Thrissur's Desamangalam. The deceased have been identified as Vikram (16) and Sreeshma (10), children of migrant workers from the India-Nepal border. Both were rescued and taken to the hospital in Pattambi, but their lives could not be saved. Another child who drowned in the river has been rescued.

The tragic incident happened on Saturday evening. The children had gone to bathe in Bharatapuzha, one kilometer away from Pattambi's Chenganamkunnu check dam. Following the mishap, the children were found in a search conducted by locals, police and fire force. Their mother Sudha works at a cattle farm in Varavattoor. The dead bodies of the children is kept at the private hospital mortuary in Pattambi.

Recently, a man drowned while taking a bath at Kochi's Puthuvype beach. The deceased Abhishek (22), a native of Kalur, was part of a group of seven that came to the beach.
