THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As per IMD trends, the rain in Kerala is showing signs of aggravating in the coming days. An orange alert has been issued today in Palakkad and Malappuram districts. A yellow alert has also been issued in the districts except Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod due to the possibility of isolated heavy rain.
The Indian meteorological department has warned about fiercer rain in the state from Monday. Seven districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam are on orange alert on Monday and Tuesday. At the same time, fishing has been banned in Kerala and Lakshadweep coast due to high waves and the possibility of storms.
The heavy rainfall is due to the cyclonic storm formation near Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema in Telangana and a low-pressure trough from south Chhattisgarh to Cape Comorin region. There is also a possibility of flash floods, landslides and mountain floods. On Friday, Ashwin (16) a native of Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, died in a flash flood in Courtallam.
