Auto driver, wife found hanging in Kollam, financial liability suspected

KOLLAM: An auto driver and his wife were found hanging at Chithara in Kollam. Dharman (54) of Pezhummoodu in Chithara and his wife Divya (43) are the two dead. The couple took the drastic step following financial liabilities. It is heard that they owed nearly Rs 7 lakh to retired police officials, who are their neighbors.

The couple owed money to some people over chitty they conducted. Divya had gone hiding after people, who had to get money continuously threatened her. Divya had a cheque signed by the wife of a police officer. She was under pressure after this cheque bounced.

The suicide note written by Divya to her relative days before her death has been found. After inquest proceedings, the body will be taken to the taluk hospital and then to Paripally Medical College for post-mortem. The couple’s son is abroad and daughter studying for plus two.
