THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: QIP meeting held on Saturday has proposed for 205 working days, including ten working Saturdays, in the new academic year in schools. The meeting was held to fix the academic calendar for the academic year 2024-25. The teachers' unions rejected the education department's proposal of 210 working days.

There are 195 working days according to the calendar and 205 working days on counting Saturdays. But the teachers' organizations demanded that Saturdays after five consecutive working days should not be made as working days. Last year too, there was a dispute between the education department and the teachers' unions regarding increasing the number of study days. Finally, following the recommendations of the organizations, the working days were set at 205. The meeting also proposed that the Onam and Christmas exams should be completed before the holidays. No decision was made regarding the teacher training days. A final decision will be taken only after ministerial discussions on the recommendations of the QIP meeting. Organizations have decided to protest if the holidays are increased.

1st term exam on September 4

The first term exam is likely to be held from September 4 to 12 and the second from December 12 to 19. The meeting also demanded that teachers and students of TTIs shouldn't lose summer vacation. The meeting was chaired by Additional Director MK Shinemon in the absence of Director of General Education. Organization representatives K. Badarunnisa (KSTA), K Abdul Majeed (KPSTA), OK Jayakrishnan (AKSTU), KM Abdullah (KSTU), PS Gopakumar (NTU), Harish Kadavathur (KSTC) and others participated.
