NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced elections for the three Rajya Sabha seats in Kerala that will soon fall vacant. The election will take place on June 25. The election was announced as the term of office of three Kerala members of the Rajya Sabha is due to expire on July 1. The MPs are CPM's Elamaram Kareem, CPI's Binoy Viswam and Kerala Congress' (Mani) Jose K Mani.
The election notification will be issued on June 6. The last date for submission of nomination papers is June 13. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on June 14. June 18 is the last date to withdraw the form. Polling will be held on June 25 from 9 am to 4 am. The counting of votes will be held at 5 o'clock on the same day.
The LDF is expected to secure two seats in the Rajya Sabha, while the UDF is expected to secure one seat, given the current state of affairs in the Legislative Assembly.
