VARKALA: A man, who set ablaze his wife and son following a family dispute in Varkala, succumbed to their injuries. Bindu (42), wife of Rajendran of Chemmaruthi and son Amal Raj (18) died at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. Amal died Monday morning and Bindu in the afternoon. Both died while undergoing treatment for burns.

Rajendran of Varkala set his wife Bindu on fire yesterday. Amal sustained burns while trying to save his mother. Rajendran, who sustained serious burns died yesterday itself.

The incident happened Sunday evening at 5. The couple were living separately for the past eight months following family issues. After attending the Kudumbashree meet at 3 pm, Bindu along with Amal and daughter Sandra came to Rajendran’s house to take some things. A dispute broke out between the two and Rajendran in a fit of rage poured Thinner on Bindu and then immolated himself.

Their daughter Sandra was standing outside at that time. By the time, she and the neighbours came rushing, Rajendran had died. The Varkala Fire Force and Ayiroor Police reached the spot and rushed Bindu and son to the medical college hospital. Though there were speculations that Rajendran, a painter poured petrol, he set Bindu on fire with the Thinner he stored in his house.
