THRISSUR: The accused who took 85 lakhs from a doctor after offering a seat in Vellore Medical College by dressing up as a bishop has been arrested. Paul Gladson (53), a resident of Annanagar, Chennai, was arrested by West Police. The scam happened when a doctor from Thrissur West Fort approached him to get a seat for his daughter.

He would make the victims believe that the college is under his charge and one seat is in his quota. 80 lakhs to one crore rupees will be charged as remuneration. He approaches his victims wearing a bishop's cassock and speaks only English. Victims start investigating only when they lose money but still can't get a seat. By then, he would have gone into hiding in Chennai. The police found that Paul had scammed more than 10 crore rupees from many people in many districts. It is reported that the crime branch is investigating a case of irregularity of 20 crores against him in Tamil Nadu. Paul used to scam his victims by introducing himself as the Anglican Bishop in charge of the Vellore Medical College.

There are cases against Paul in police stations like Koratti, Adoor, Angamali, Pandalam and Pala. He frequently changes his phone number and residence. The accused was remanded. The accused was nabbed by a team comprising SI Sujith, Sr. CPO Tony Varghese and CPO Rubin Antony led by West SHO Shiju Abraham.
