'Years of hard work and unwavering love for mother nation'; George Kurian's wife Annamma responds

KOTTAYAM: It was well past afternoon that the Kerala media started reporting about the enigmatic second choice of BJP leadership for the cabinet minister post from Kerala. The luck fell upon George Kurian, the state general secretary of BJP and a leader from the influential Christian section. But for his wife Annamma, it is not luck but the years of hard work that are now showering rewards on George.

“Cabinet minister rank comes and goes. It is no big issue. But I have seen how he has worked for the people all his life. His experience in politics and social service is beyond comparison. We as a family were always behind him for everything he did. I heard the news only through television and some people also started calling to congratulate me. He( George Kurian) called me today morning when he reached Delhi. But he said nothing more.

He is not just a member of the BJP but someone who worked for the society carrying unwavering love for his mother nation.”

George Kurian is a rare breed of leader to emerge from Kerala’s Kottayam, the central region of Kerala where it is unlikely for people from Christian families to support the BJP. Despite many objections from family, George Kurian remained unfettered and continued his social service in BJP colours.

George Kurian is the former Vice-Chairman of the National Minorities Commission. Despite rumours in the morning about his inclusion into Modi’s cabinet, George remained unreachable while the leaders too were unaware of any final decision. But the dots were connected when George Kurian attended the tea party organized at Narendra Modi’s residence on Sunday.
