Rain with thunder and lightning in four districts in next hours; caution advised

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Indian Meteorological Department has predicted moderate rain with thunder and lightning in four districts of Kerala in the next three hours. Chances of moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph are forecast. IMD said that light rain is also possible in isolated places in other districts.

According to the Meteorological Center, heavy rain will continue in the coming days. A red alert has been announced in three districts tomorrow. Red alert has been announced in Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts. Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts are on orange alert. Yellow alert has been declared in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts.

An orange alert has been announced in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Monday. Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad districts are on yellow alert.

On Tuesday, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts are on orange alert and Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad districts are on yellow alert. IMD has informed that fishing should not be done in Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts from today till Wednesday.

High wave warning

Special alert has been issued for Kasargod and Kannur coasts. Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) informed that the coasts of these districts are likely to experience high waves of 2.8 to 3.1 meters from 05:30 AM to 11:30 PM on 24-06-2024. INCOIS informed that there is a possibility of Kallakadal aka swell surge waves phenomenon and high waves along Kerala coast and Tamil Nadu coast till 11:30 PM on 24-06-2024. Fishermen and coastal residents of these areas should be extra cautious.

  1. As the rough seas are likely to intensify, stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities.
  2. Keep fishing vessels (boats, boats, etc.) safely moored in the harbor. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the possibility of collision. Safety of fishing equipment should be ensured.
  3. Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea.
