Student dies of vomiting and diarrhoea, food poisoning suspected

KOZHIKODE: In yet another case of alleged food poisoning in the district, a student died while undergoing treatment for vomiting and diarrhoea. The incident happened at Nadapuram in Kozhikode. The girl identified as Deva Theertha, daughter of Sajeevan of Valayam Neelandummal Padinjarayil and Shaija, died Monday morning at 10 am at a private hospital in Kozhikode. She was a ninth-class student of Valayam Govt Higher Secondary School.

Deva Theertha was at home in Poyiloor with her mother. She was under treatment for vomiting and diarrhoea at Thalassery Indira Gandhi Cooperative Hospital for the past two days. She was shifted to Kozhikode yesterday when her condition worsened.

Her body has been shifted to the mortuary of Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. Hospital authorities said the cause of death can be confirmed only after post-mortem.
