KANNUR: Discontent is simmering in Kannur CPM against LDF convener EP Jayarajan. Severe criticism was raised against EP Jayarajan in the district committee meeting held to assess the party's defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. It was alleged in the meeting that EP Jayarajan, who holds an important position, often took positions that did not befit the dignity of his position. The meeting even reached the point of demanding EP's resignation.

A senior member accused EP Jayarajan of constantly making statements that put the party and the Left front in crisis. Although EP Jayarajan is responsible for coordinating the campaign at the state level as the LDF convener, his presence was not visible at any stage. EP's revelation on the polling day about his meeting with BJP leader Prakash Javadekar had led to the leakage of minority votes. The votes of even the Kanthapuram faction got leaked.

Not even a single member of the district committee was ready to speak in favour of Jayarajan. State Secretary MV Govindan, who tried to control and defend the criticisms raised against the Chief Minister in the meeting, did not dare to defend the criticism against EP.

A group of CPM leaders in Kannur had turned against Jayarajan ever since he was involved in the appointment row while serving as Industries Minister.
