Heavy rains cause extensive damage across state; Alerts issued for coastal areas

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain following a low pressure area caused extensive damage in the state yesterday. In Thiruvananthapuram, a pick-up driver died after being shocked by a tree that fell on a power line in the wind. Safiuddin (63) died in Shahnaz Villa, Thekkinkad, Nagarur.

The sea attack is also severe. Meanwhile, the weather forecast says that the intensity of rain will decrease from today. In this case, orange and red alerts have been withdrawn.

In the state, 108 houses were partially destroyed and five houses were completely destroyed. There was no casualty due to landslides in Periya, Kasaragod. The house in Malappuram Chembrassery was completely destroyed. Nellengara Suresh and his wife escaped unhurt.

Yellow alert has been announced today in Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. No fishing in Kerala, Lakshadweep and Karnataka coasts. The National Center for Ocean Studies and Research has informed that there is a possibility of high waves along the coasts of Kollam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
