Woman beaten by colleagues for defaulting on loan repayment

PUNALUR: A housewife who defaulted on the repayment of the mutual guarantee loan was beaten up by her co-workers. After suffering the beating, the said woman, Suraja (42) of Madhu Bhavan in 14th filling in Cherukadavu, sought treatment at Punalur Govt Taluk Hospital. She was assaulted by Deepa, Jaya, Malu, Vasanthakumari and Saritha around 10.30 on Wednesday night. Thenmala police registered a case against them.

The accused were arrested and released on bail. Apart from the Kudumbashree Unit, they had taken loans from private financial institutions under mutual guarantee. When Suraja stopped paying her part of the installments, her colleagues came to the house to enquire about it. In between the conversation, she was beaten. Suraja allegedly defaulted on loans taken for purposes including the marriage of her daughter. About Rs 3 lakhs needs to be paid.
